HP%, C.RATE, C.DMG, SPD, FOCUS Long has the mysterious shaman Galeno drawn considerable foot traffic to the isolated island off the coast of Talin on which he lives. Unfriendly or downright hostile to strangers, Galeno has a rare talent that paradoxically makes him one of the most sought-after magical practitioners anywhere in Aurelica—the ability to foretell the future. Try as he might maintain his reclusive lifestyle, Galeno has seemingly forever been assailed by a continuous stream of visitors seeking to know their fortune.
And what does Galeno want in return for this incredible service? Merely one gift—but it must be a gift acceptable to his tastes. Unfortunately, there are no clear rules on what constitutes an “acceptable” gift. It is certainly not price, as many wealthy merchants have discovered.
Much thought has been poured out into Galeno’s preferences. From one visitor he accepts one of the commonest plants of the Crisas Desert; from another, he accepts only a priceless antique bought from the mightiest auction house in the Holy Light Empire. And other less-cultured barbarians have had prayers answered with the gift of grizzly orc skull. recently beheaded.
The most legendary story of Galeno’s fussy preferences involved a wealthy magnate from Lasir who arrived at the head of five carriages filled to the brim with jewels, trinkets, priceless heirlooms, and antiques to ensure—beyond all reasonable doubt—his desperate desire to have his fortune told would be fulfilled. Scandalously, Galeno refused every treasure presented, treasures enough to have secured a lifetime of food and shelter many times over for commoners living in squalor in the merchant’s own district.
Unaccustomed to having such an offer refused, the angry merchant lifted his sword to Galeno’s neck and demanded he takes one as payment. An emotionless Galeno stared back at him with cold eyes and whispered softly, “If you spill my blood, then before the rooster crows, I assure you that your blood will be spilled as well.” Suffice it to say the white-faced merchant left in a hurry.
